What you will be able to do

  • Write SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, XLOOKUP and nested IF from memory rather than from a search
  • Build formulas that survive a new row being added or a column being inserted
  • Reconcile two lists and explain which rows are missing, not just that the totals differ
  • Recognise why two identical-looking values refuse to match
  • Diagnose a broken formula instead of rewriting it from scratch

Who this is for

  • Job seekers with an Excel test coming up
  • Students who want practice that resembles real work
  • Professionals who use Excel daily and learned it by guessing

Modules

  1. 1. Excel Essentials

    14 exercises

The arithmetic and the first functions. Totals, averages, counts, extremes, and turning two numbers into a rate.

  2. 2. Logical Functions

    10 exercises

Making a spreadsheet decide. One condition, then several, then conditions nested inside each other.

  3. 3. Lookup Functions

    10 exercises

Pulling a value out of another table — with XLOOKUP, with VLOOKUP and its limits, and with INDEX/MATCH when direction matters.

  4. 4. SUMIFS & COUNTIFS

    11 exercises

Totals and counts that answer a question rather than adding up a column. One condition, then several, then a grid that fills both ways.

  5. 5. Text Functions

    10 exercises

Getting the part you need out of a string — from the left, the right, the middle, and from a position you have to find first.

  6. 6. Date Functions

    3 exercises

Building a date Excel will treat as a date, and doing arithmetic with it. The shortest module here — see the note on the pack page.

  7. 7. Data Cleaning & Analysis

    10 exercises

Real data arrives inconsistent. Standardising it, finding duplicates, reconciling lists, and summarising what is left.

  8. 8. Workplace Challenges

    4 exercises

Multi-step tasks and inherited formulas that are wrong. The work is reading what is there before changing it.

  9. 9. Assessments

    12 exercises

Judgement and speed rather than formula writing: which function to reach for, what an error means, and the keyboard work that separates fast from slow. These twelve are online-only — there is no spreadsheet to fill in.

See a sample before you decide

Two real files from this pack, free and with no signup. One exercise from each level, so you can judge the format and the quality of the solutions rather than take our word for it.

What is in the sample

  • Total a month of sales with SUM
  • Total sales for a region and month with SUMIFS
  • Find which customers are missing from a list

A selection across the levels, not one of the nine modules. Every one of these is also free to try online, where a wrong formula gets diagnosed rather than just marked wrong.

What is included

Practice workbooks
One .xlsx per module, with the dataset filled in and the answer cells left blank. Column widths, number formats and labelled blocks — not a flat CSV dump.
Solution workbooks
The working formula for every answer cell, plus why it works and the mistake people make instead. This is the half a downloaded file normally cannot give you.
Quick guides
A one-page reference per function covering syntax, a worked example and where it goes wrong.
Progress tracker
A sheet listing every exercise with its skill and level, so you can see what is left.
Practice online
Every exercise links back to its interactive version on the site, where a wrong formula gets diagnosed rather than just marked wrong.

Format: standard .xlsx workbooks, no macros. 72 of the 84 exercises arrive as workbook sheets; the other 12 are keyboard and multiple-choice drills with no spreadsheet to fill in, so they are practised online.

Questions

How is this different from the free practice files?

The exercises are largely the same — and that is stated plainly rather than hidden. The free files are flat CSVs with the answer cells blank. The pack gives you formatted .xlsx workbooks split by module, a separate solution workbook with the working formula, an explanation and the common mistake for every answer, quick guides for each function, and a progress sheet. If you only want the datasets, take the free files.

What format are the files?

Standard .xlsx workbooks, no macros. They open in Excel, in LibreOffice and in Google Sheets, though Sheets renders some number formats differently.

Do I need the latest Excel?

Almost all of it works in Excel 2016 onward. XLOOKUP needs Excel 2021 or Microsoft 365 — where it appears, the solution workbook also shows the INDEX/MATCH equivalent, because that is what older files at work will contain anyway.

Is there a subscription?

No. One payment, and the files are yours. Updates to the pack are included.

Can I still practise online?

Yes, and you should. Every exercise in the pack links to its interactive version, which tells you why a formula is wrong rather than only that it is. The workbooks are for rehearsing in real Excel once the feedback has stopped surprising you.
